Going by what you say about the carrier film not being that visible in person, I suspect they haven't actually silvered, but that the carrier film is showing up on the pics because of the differential between the surface finishes, in which case as you say it might dissapear when you apply a flat coat...which would be my net step. Failing that, drop Paul from Little Cars a line, he carries a line including the strongest decal setting solution you can get...ask him about it, and then use with caution! :)

Cheers Vinnie I'll give that ago next time round. I say that because even after two coats of Klear the first wash of oils destroyed the decals completely.

Peddinghaus do warn of this on their instructions but I thought a couple of coats would be sufficient to protect it, I'll have to try an acrylic gloss varnish on when I reapply, other than that I'll have to settle for bright clean decals applied once everything else is finished!

I used Microsol/Microset on this application so it should have worked. Oh well back to the bench and I'll update when I have something to show other than disaster.

The stuff Paul has is much, much stronger than the Micro products. I must admit I've never, ever had decals destroyed by a wash? That's one manufacturer's decals I'll steer clear of in future. :)

A friend of mine has had trouble with Peddinghaus decals dissolving too which given the price he was more than a little miffed about.

It's a real shame about Peddinghaus because they have a varied collection of interesting sets. I'm going to try again, just waiting for Paul (Little Cars) to get back to me re the decal solution. Then I'll try various varnishes to seal the decals before applying more washes.

While I wait for the "aggressive" decal stuff from Paul I can't really do much more with the 6 RAD so I thought I'd show you some of the figure progress I've made.

This is the SD man in his black uniform, still got some work to do, shirt, belt kit and badges. Also I have his MP 41 to complete. He looks somewhat shiny as I ended painting the black uniform in oils.

Image

The SS officer I did earlier in the year, not too sure about the camouflage pattern, it still needs a bit of fading which I'll do with white oil paints and see how it goes from there.

And finally my dead partisan, just the face done in oils, I kept the hue very pale and added some pale blue to the mix to give that dead bloodless pallor, hope it carries through in the photo's.

I'll try and get some more done this weekend.

I've had a bit of a hiatus on this project, firstly problems with Peddinghaus decals and secondly I've well and truly buggered up my left knee, which makes sitting at the bench a little painful, to say the least.

On Vinnie's advice I spoke to Paul from Small Cars and got some Daco Red decal solution, this was better than Micro Sol/Set but still didn't dissolve the carrier film, so I trimmed the decals as close as I dare to the art work.

I have also done some chipping and scratches and a little weathering, still more is needed if the upper decks are to match what I've done underneath.

I have also made some progress on the figures, the SS officer and SD Poleizi man are now done. The weapon in the SD's hand is (supposed to be) a MP41, this was the MP40 working parts attached to the butt and stock of the MP28. I actually used the butt and stock from a KAR 98, if I had the MP28 I would have used that instead.

The next two are still WIP and need quite a lot of work, especially to calm down the camouflage.

The final figures are still in undercoat.

All comments welcome.

Cheers Simon

Great work Simon. Some toning down of the camo on the kneeling figure and it`ll be perfect. And the vehicle looks really kool with the polizei decal :)
