GREATWALL HOBBY - FULL BUILD Northrop Black Widow
A big thankyou to The Airbrush Company for supplying this one...first for a review and then full build...given that it's primarily an armour site, I'm very grateful! The intial in-box review can be found here: REVIEW: GREATWALL HOBBY - Northrop P-61A 'Black Widow' To begin with, the instructions call out for the main components of the cockpit to be assembled... As you can see from above, there's a fair amount of photo-etch going on here. However...that was to be the second problem area. The first problem was the plastic itself. Now I've built GreatWall Hobby or Lionroar kits before, so I know it's not a longstanding problem with their plastic, but for some reason this one just seemed to be more brittle than usual. Which led to the various components for both seats to literally fall apart when removing them from the sprue, and then further break apart when cleaning them up. Which led me to putting it back in its box for a few weeks in order that I could come back to it with fresh enthusiasm! Which I did. I also installed all the PE seatbelts before deciding firstly, that they were too uniform looking and secondly, they were damded difficult to make look right. So I used the various buckles, cut the PE straps off and repalced them with lead foil. Which is where I am up to now. Bearing in mind that the seats are held together with superglue where they shouldn't be, and the PE straps have been dumped for something else, I don't think it's come out too bad? That's all for now! A short intro, but back to it soon! Thanks for looking! Vinnie

Very cool Vinnie. Looks good to me. As I said in the review thread, I'm looking forward to seeing your finishing style applied to an aircraft, I think it will look brilliant.

Hi Vinnie Watching this with interest. Very nice looking start. It's nice to build something outside your comfort zone every now & then. Shaun

I was beginning to wonder when this one would show up. You think it will be better than those Airfix Widows you built as a kid?

Already is John! It's bigger! Plus the cockpit is just a little more detailed! Vinnie
