Re: How to be a retronought
Swimming in the Seine? Yuk. Actually, scrolling through the pictures of Paris in colour, you do start to get the feeling that it wasn't that bad....the majority look well to do etc. The women with their strange heeled shoes, putting their make-up on etc., the people fishing, the lone woman giving the game away that perhaps these people aren't fishing to while away the hours, but actually to put food on the table that night...and then suddenly the woman walking with a friend wearing the 'Juden' yellow star. That's when the real meaning of occupation suddenly becomes more apparent, and what it must have meant to certain parts of the populace. Scary.
Thanks for posting Paul.
Vinnie

Re: How to be a retronought
I get the exact same feeling looking at those Paris photos Vinnie. I just finally got round to reading Band of Brothers and the last chapter was damning as it covers just how easy people had it back home and carried on as if there was no war, whilst all the way down the food chain people were skimming off supply chains until the poor sods on he front line barely had food or bullets.
