Hi

The Black Black Widow airfix plane is a real "rave from the grave", Being of an age where everyone made this kit!!

Not much choice, and the price was right 2 shillings and six pence

I am very curious to see a modern produced plane build by an armour aficionado 8-)

Go Vinnie, I am bookmarked and watching from the 2nd or 3rd row ;)

Actually, it is quite pleasant Steve! :P

Right then! A small update, but nevertheless quite vital, since small plastic men cannot fly small plastic aeroplanes without small plastic cockpit controls!

Here's the controls...

Image

As you can see it's wonderfully detailed, and Greatwall Hobby supply a full set of instrument decals for all those dials, plus a comprehensive map of whereabouts each of them goes. They also supply two small photo-etched rudder pedals to replace those two plastic ones moulded in place at the bottom of the panel. By the way, I'm really surprised at how the attachment points on some of these pieces are moulded. It is really quite difficult to avoid breakages when removing them from the sprue. I'm going to have to fire up the pyrogravure and remove all of one sessions parts in future updates!

Image

Anyway...back to those rudder pedals. If you look at how they're installed on the picture below, you'll see that removal of the plastic ones necessitated the two small pins either side being left in place to mount them on. The temptation when removing the plastic ones is to cut them in such a way as to result int heir removal too. Do that and you'll have too wide a gap to mount the photo-etched ones. I really hope you can see on these on the finiehd model. Somehow I think not.

Image

Temporarily mounted, but not fixed yet. All that painting and decalling means I'll fix it in place afterwards.

Thanks for looking! :)
