DRAGON - Waffen Grenadiers & Fighting Elite in the East
I've been asked to build the two Dragon figure sets shown below. These are #6692 'German Fighting Elite in the East', and # 6704 'German Waffen Grenadiers 1944-45'. Both figure sets are marketed as containing '2nd Gen Gear', but this only refers to the personal kit sprues, and not to the figures themselves nor the included weapons sprues. It's a bit difficult convincing yourself that it applies to the kit either really...since the original 2nd Gen kit items had separate cups on the canteens, plus separate lids for the mess tins etc. These don't. The gas mask cylinders...which are provided in these kits even though they're not used...do have a separate end piece, but only one end, whereas the original 2nd Gen ones has both ends as separate parts. The eight figures will be finished exactly as per the box art, so rather than do them one at a time, when I'm working on a few at a time to prevent mix-ups etc., I use the small stainless steel chutney dishes shown below to keep them organised. The number of the figure set and which figure it is can be marked on the dish, and easily removed with damp cloth once finished. They can also be handily stacked to keep them safely out of the way when working on something else. The first figure I'm going to work on is the first from #6692, and sort out the legs first, one of which is shown below. As you can see it's a bit rough. The bottom part of his parka is represented, below which you can see his tunic. More later. Vinnie

The Branigan factory in full swing, excellent. Watching with anticipation, and not ashamed to be in the front row Steve H

MMMmmmmm Chutney! Used to get really good chutney and naan in the UAE. We've yet to find it here. You've set yourself a lot of work there. Have you noticed that your speed of completion has improved with the sheer volume of figures you're doing right now? Can you "sprue lace" a boot in half the time as compared to 6 months ago?

Vinnie, I have to say this, it looks like the "after" party poster for the toffs in French Revolution, Sorry, but its the first thing that came into my head when I show your pictures. Seriously though, top flight "Braniganisation" yet again. Paint soon Steve H
