Stewart McNair wrote: Really like these vehicles and enjoying the build so far Just in case it's of interest Hobbyfan have started releasing some new figures specifically for this kit in case your interested Thanks, Stewart. I saw those figures announced over on PMMS. THey look very good. It'll be awhile before those hit the market, I think, too late for this build. But they might come in handy for others.

I used it once on some Panzer IV tracks a couple of years ago and, while it does look good, the chemical must have attacked the wire pins, as they disintegrated when I was putting them on the tank. Hi Steve I have my own home made concoction I use to weather Fruil tracks and like you, had the same problem. So I simply weathered the links before I assembled them. Problem solved. The good thing is that Fruil now seem to be supplying brass wire for the link pins which isn't affected by the mixture so you can assemble them first now. Steve Kubik wrote: With as much use as these vehicles got in the South Pacific, I didn't expect to see too much rust on the tracks, so I kept the rust effects to a minimum and none on the inside. While I don't have photographic evidence, I'd imagine that the tracks would rust up pretty quickly. After all, the Pacific has the same salt water content as the rest of the world's oceans. Otherwise, this is looking mighty fine Looking forward to the next update. Gary

 Re: AFV Club LVT-4
Gary, "So I simply weathered the links before I assembled them. ". To use a quote from one of my favorite movies, The Great Escape, "Why didn't anyone think of that before? It's so stupid, it's positively brilliant! " Can't say it better than that. That's so simple a solution I don't know why it never occurred to me. I'll have to remember that if I use Fruils again. As for the rust. Same here, not too much photographic evidence to support what I think. Yes, the tracks would have rusted while they were sitting still. But the LVT's weren't sitting still for long. THe battle of Iwo Jima lasted about 7 days in which time, those LVT's that weren't destroyed would have been shuttling troops/supplies/cargo and forth from the invasion ships. THe sand on those beaches would probably have worn the rust off the tracks farely quickly. At least that's my theory. However, the tracks are on the model permanently

 Re: AFV Club LVT-4
Progress is slow. Here's what I've been working on. I had planned to have the LVT unloading a jeep and some supplies, but I wanted something different. On this site, http://ww2db.com/index.php, I found a picture of a jeep modified as a litter carrier. So, I took Tamiya's jeep that I had partially built last year. I removed the windscreen, moved the spare wheel and jerry can holder and scratch built a simple frame, both for the front and back. I painted the jeep overall faded OD and will weather with pigments. The framework was painted to resemble plain steel. I'll move on to adding some details while I wait for those blasted decals to get here....

Thanks, Frerik.
From the picture I was working from, I can't determine if the rear seat was installed or not. I decided to leave it in - one less thing to have to hide.

 Re: AFV Club LVT-4
" Don't fix it if it isn't broke " right??
Most pics of ambulance jeeps I have seen, carry both sitting and lying down wounded. So it would make sense to leave them in: this way they could carry two stretchers over the hood/bonnet, and sit four in the back....!
