Thats pretty cool Simon, a unique vehicle that is too. Are you using copper for the lids, lock hasps etc ?

Re: Italeri Sd. Kfz 232 6 RAD
Cheers all, much appreciated.
Tony, the lids, hasps and locks are all made from brass shim, well probably copper actually. They are plant tags from the garden centre, very thin and soft about a third of an inch wide and five long, very cheap as well. The padlocks are simply about three folds of the brass with a loop of five amp fuse wire stuck in the middle.
Cheers Simon

Re: Italeri Sd. Kfz 232 6 RAD
Right then onto the figures I have prepared for this, two you will have seen on the base, a dead partisan and a dead SS man. I'll deal in more detail with these as the bog progresses. First up a couple I have posted before in the figures forum, at the time of making them I had no idea what I was going to use them for. Then a change in my planned projects opened an ideal slot for them. So far all I have done is paint their faces and hands, done in oils as I am hopeless at painting these in acrylic. Next up is the commander figure for the 6 RAD, pretty armless at the moment as I need to fit his arms to the turret, which is actually under way at the moment, I'll catch up in time with photo's. The body is a Miniart DAK armoured car crew, perfect for the open fronted tunic, the rest of the detail is OK because only his head, shoulders and arms will be visible and as he's going to be wearing black his lower half will just be blocked in that colour. The head is Hornet. Another black clad figure, this time made up from various manufacturers bits, with a hornet head and DML helmet. The right arm is scratchbuilt as I had nothing suitable to use and the uniform detail is all made from Magic Sculpt. Not shown in these pictures but he will be armed with an MP41, which is pretty much and MP40 with wooden stock, not many of these were manufactured, some went to the SS and the rest to Hungary. Finally a quick shot of the dead partisan. Again made up of various manufacturers body parts and some Magic Sculpt details. The head is Tamiya, from their relaxing German AFV crew set, if anyone knows this set it's the bare headed one with loads of hair and an idiotic grin. Not sure you'll be able to see it from this picture but I have retouched the head, he now looks pretty zombie like and had a very receding hair line. This will be more apparent once he is painted. The black clothed figures are going to be Internal Security Police (SD), which is why I am after Poleizi decals for the 6 RAD (they are on order from Peddinghaus Decals). They are engaged on a partisan hunt assisted by SS troops, probably not the choicest of scenarios to depict but a major feature of Nazi Germany's struggle to maintain occupied territory. Cheers Simon

Re: Italeri Sd. Kfz 232 6 RAD
Not a great deal of progress, more repair and better pictures of the start of the painting of the figures First I have rid the vehicle of all those unnecessary weld seams and (hopefully) restored the angles to the armour plating. I have also added the turret (temporarily) for this picture with the frame for the bedstead aerial again temporarily in place. The crewman is now complete apart from a tidy up and a few creases adding to his sleeve and of course all the leads for his headphones and throat mic. The two SS men, better pictures this time, have had their faces pained in oils and the field grey of their uniforms in acrylic. That's all for now hope you like it and anything you think I could do to improve it so far just let me know, please. Simon

The faces look great Simon. Need to give us alittle SBS on face painting. I tend to paint faces with acriylics and get pretty good results but I always wanted to try oils for the face.

Re: Italeri Sd. Kfz 232 6 RAD
Not managed a lot just recently, we got another kitten and she is creating havoc, it's hard to concentrate on modelling with an 8 week old kitten climbing your back! Sadly though I had to have the last of my original 5 cats put down, mind she was 19 so did well, but it came less than a month after having another put to sleep so it's not been a good month. Anyway I have made "some" progress. The aerial is dry fitted as I intend to fix it in place once everything is airbrushed and the commander figure is fixed in. I have added some interest to the inside of the hatches, though I reckon the handles are sufficient to lock it. That said it just adds a little something even if it may not be completely accurate. They do need cleaning up a bit before painting. Also I have the wheels all weighted and primed ready for a bit of panzer grey. Cheers Simon

Re: Italeri Sd. Kfz 232 6 RAD
Managed to get a bit of progress made, first off I have added a few details to the ground work. The wheel is from an old Alanger anti tank gun. The additional foliage is to support the dead SS soldier, it is the same as the creeping ivy on the wall and the plants growing out of the wheel behind the wall. It is simply Stinging Nettle flowers, plenty of them about at this time of year but be careful not to get stung! I undercoated the 6 RAD with grey primer spray straight from the can, then using Citadel "Chaos Black" I added some pre-shading. My first coat of paint after this was a bit of a disaster, lots of splatter and very poor coverage, so I had to start again. Second time was better. I made a basic mix of Tamiya Panzer Grey with about 20% added Field Blue. I made a stab at colour modulation by adding small amounts of "Menoth White Base" a P3 colour from Privateer Press. Let me know what you think, anywhere I could improve or if I've done anything glaringly wrong! Cheers Simon
