 Re: Somewhere in the Ukraine
It's been a while since my last update, sorry about that, I spent a week passing a kidney stone and was in no mood for modelling. Then my youngest broke his collar bone, fair play to the lad he didn't tell anyone as he wanted to carry on playing, only when he went to a mates house for a drink did someone notice he was in pain and brought him home! Then I had a flair up with my arthritis and couldn't walk without crutches. Quite an "interesting" time but not at all productive. Anyway enough about my problems it's progress you want to see and hear about. This is my vert first attempt at a winter whitewash scheme, I sealed the model with Klear and once dry applied some Treseme, you know saloon quality at affordable prices! I applied the white mix (Citadel Skull White, Vallejo German Grey {just a dab} and Citadel Graveyard Earth {again just a dab}). The white came off with warm water, a stiff(ish) brush and a toothpick as is normal for this method. I then sealed the whole with Klear again and once dry touched up the white with pure white and underpainted the seats and tracks. I'm also just one fella short of the rest of the figures for this dio, soon be painting soldiers again. Cheers for now Simon

 Re: Somewhere in the Ukraine
Ouch about the kidney stone Simon!! Sorry to hear about your youngster too.
However - nice whitewash and those figures all look very nice. I'm looking forward to seeing this come to fruition
Is that your first stone?

 Re: Somewhere in the Ukraine
Thanks gents, comments and patience appreciated.
Still got quite a lot to do on this little scene, as my first winter scene and vehicle it's been quite a learning curve.
As for the stones, had my first in the mid 90's and they took it out by Dyna-rod, since then I've been content to suffer and let them pass on their own.

Simon Cracking effort for your first attempt When I add a whitewash, I also add some mapping to give some depth. Seal in what you've already done and reapply hairspray. Then add further white (different shade) and scrub as before for effect. Even repeat again if necessary. As I said, adds more depth and 'interest' to the white. Look forward to seeing more. Gary

Hello Simon, Mate your not having a good run of recent times are you? It's great to see you back having a crack at a model though and you have my sympathy and best wishes. Hope it all gets to smooth sailing soon! Great work on the whitewash. I have never yet attempted to do one yet, but when i do, if it turns out anywhere half as good as yours looks, i will be very happy indeed Woody...

Gary, good idea and maybe next time, patience has never been my strong point, I'd already prgressed by the time I read this, pictures to follow through the week. Cheers though, I will have to try this again soon(ish).
Woody, cheers mate feeling better and the boy's back at school tomorrow, thanks for the comments on the T20 too.

Hi Simon It's good to see you're still making some progress with this build in spite of all your unwanted 'distractions'. I really hope that you feel better soon. Cheers Karol PS that tractor is a weird looking thing

 Re: Somewhere in the Ukraine
Cheers Karol, yeah odd looking beast but bet it was fun to drive!!!! As promised pictures of my progress so far. I've done some mapping and staining with acrylics, will be oils next. I also let my impatience get the better of me and mounted the figures, still got a few bits to add before it's done. Looking at it now I'm glad I didn't add the canopy otherwise it would have looked even more weird and Heath Robinson!! Got to get to grips with broken ice on the ground work soon, first attempt went horribly wrong so it snowed a lot more over the top. One question, what colours are the rear Notek lights? I assume part of it is red and the other is white light for the following vehicles to keep tabs on where it is!? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Simon

 Re: Somewhere in the Ukraine
Hi Simon I believe the smaller top lights are green, the bottom larger lights are red/orange, the white light is at the front I think. I am sure someone will have a more definitive and confident answer though Your passenger looks really good, cold and uncomfortable, the scarf is a real treat and just that personal touch that sparks a scenario and draws the eye. Is the figure off the shelf or adjusted to fit?, as it fits just right. Close to the end, hope your ice come together for you not too much brandy though nice one Steve H
