 Identify?
Amongst the latest batch of ET Model update sets I have to review is the set shown below and described as the 'IDF Windbreaker Active Protection System'. Strangely, Voyager Model also does a similar set and is described in the same way. Only as far as I can find out, it's not? Anybody know what it actually is? I mean...it is some kind of APS, but which? Vinnie

 Re: Identify?
You're right Vinnie, Windbreaker (or Trophy in IDF terminology) is not this system. WB uses a number of sensors all around the turret and two clusters of launchers on the turret top sides to defeat incoming threats. One vehicle was displayed at Eurosatory arms show 2010.
I'll try to have a look at my Tankograd book to check if this system is mentioned and give you its name if so.
In between, name it as it is labeled on the AM set. This way the potential customer won't be deceived.

 Re: Identify?
Thanks Olivier, but naming it as it says on the set would probably decieve potential customers? I'll wait to see what it actually is called, if you can discover it? Thanks!
Vinnie

 Re: Identify?
I thought that Jon, since it is similar in apperance. There are pictures on a Merkava IV of the thing, but no label as to what it is.

 Re: Identify?
Vinnie, I just checked both the Tankograd book about Merkavas and the Desert Eagle Publishing Merkava IV volume and none of them gives any indication about the name of the system. The captions of pictures where the mast is present are all dated 2006 just after the summer war against Lebanon. That's all I got.

 Re: Identify?
Vinnie
I think you'll find it's called an EWRS - Early Warning & Response System.

 Re: Identify?
Hi Gary, that's just another term for what it is, i.e. an 'Active Protection System'...or...an 'Early Warning & Response System'. I've discovered what it's actually called now. It's the KI-619 IDF Anti Tank Missile Defense System. I'm a happy camper now. Been annoyed all day by this. Vinnie
