Post Re: AVRE
Chris

Now you tell me

Okay, so following its abortive attempt to imitate a Ju87, the rear deck is all fixed up. The original blue 'rag' was made from milliput and broke up with the impact so I replaced it with an air recognition flag using foil.....

Image

The rear panel received PE telephone and first aid boxes.

Image

The 'T' often seen on these boxes was painted using a stencil, but the first aid box proved more challenging. My collection of spare decals failed to come up with what I needed so I needed to do things the hard way  The only letters I had which were of a suitable size were from an Archer dry transfer set. I had to cut out the individual letters to make up the words required....

Image

I think I pulled it off :?

The rear section of cable is made from ship modelling 'rope'. I simply run a flame along the string to remove the 'fluffy bits' and then made a loop each end to represent a steel hawser. I then simply painted it steel. The release mechanism has it's green basecoat on at this stage and will be further weathered when the front cables are in place....

Front cables attached....

Cables and mecahnism still need to be weathered. Once they are done I'll add a light coat of dust around the running gear etc.

Also made a start on the figures I'll be using with this. Alpine's sublime British tank crew in their pixie suits....

Gary,

awesome as always!
Even in close-ups everything still looks perfect.

I actually like the "new" look of the release mechanism....
I should look into my references, but wasn't the mechanism released manually with a cable that ran into a hatch????

Thanks Frerik :D

The 'cable' has since been made using lead wire but I hand't fitted it in those pics. I thought I read somewhere that there was a small charge in the mechanism which could be detonated to release the mechanism if under fire via detonation cord. Otherwise it was released manually. Happy to hear what your references say though.

Cheers

Gary

Bucket has been painted and weathered to represent an enamel coated bucket typical of that era....

Image

Release mechanism weathered. The release cable has been attached to the mechanism and still needs to be fixed to appear it is going through the loaders hatch....

So far....

Gary, that looks great, amazing work. Certainly a show stopper if you ask me.

Aerials next.

First up is the excellent LionMarc set somplete with protective guard....

Image

Everything solders together nicely for strength....

Image

The other aerial is from Passion mdels. You may be able to make out the wing nut clamp I've added to the base as this always seems to be missing on kits :?

Image

I've also added further weathing using diluted acrylics, oils and pigments....
